Keeps the Sapphire Preferred for primary rental-car coverage and transfer partners, which is all they need from it.
“The CSP is only one of 2 95$ cards with primary rental CDW. That plus transfer partners is more than good enough for me.”
Had the Sapphire Preferred for years and moves back to it from the Reserve; uses it only to transfer points to travel partners, which always gave them the best return.
“I use the card exclusively to transfer points to travel partners. I always got a better return on points that way.”
Uses the Sapphire Preferred as their dining card: miscoding is rare, the anniversary bonus helps, and there are no foreign fees for dining abroad.
“Miscoded restaurants are infrequent enough with Chase that for me the anniversary bonus makes CSP the optimal card for dining.”
Dislikes being pushed into Chase's portal to get value from the Sapphire Preferred; finds it a hassle and losing value fast.
“It’s just a hassle and it’s rapidly losing value. Cashback and BILT looked significantly more appealing after the latest CSP news.”
Opened the Sapphire Preferred only to transfer Freedom Unlimited points to travel partners and sees no other perks; travelling abroad yearly makes the fee bearable.
“I had freedom unlimited but points couldn’t be transferred to travel partners, thus opened CSP. I don’t see any perks of having CSP.”

Uses the Sapphire Preferred abroad where Amex is harder to use; avoiding foreign transaction fees earns back much of the annual fee for them.
“I find once I'm out of the airport, metro areas and tourist traps, Amex does become a bit more trickier to use.”
Got the Sapphire Preferred for point transfers, which they value for moving points between Chase cards and to Southwest; the purchase protection is a bonus.
“The points transfer is the primary reason I got the CSP. It's really valuable being able to move points to and from other Chase cards”
Their first travel card; still rates the Sapphire Preferred as good, mainly for its primary rental-car coverage, and uses it as a backup Visa when travelling.
“I think it’s still a good card, particularly if you travel and can utilize its primary CDW coverage for rentals. That alone covers the annual fee. It was my first travel card.”
Found the Sapphire Preferred's multipliers underwhelming next to the Freedom cards; it was mostly useful to them for online groceries and streaming.
“It was most useful for me for online groceries and streaming.”
Kept the Sapphire Preferred only for the 25% travel redemption bonus; without it they no longer see a reason to pay the annual fee.
“The only reason I have my CSP still open is to get 25% bonus value instead of just taking straight cash”
Plans to cancel the Sapphire Preferred once new points are worth less for travel, since that was the only reason they kept it.
“I have the sapphire preferred and the Amex platinum. I’ll be cancelling my sapphire after this takes into effect since the extra points for travel was the only reason I kept it”
After three years with the Sapphire Preferred they rarely find good redemptions for domestic flights, though international economy redemptions have saved them a lot.
“I’ve had the card for 3 years. I used points vs buying in cash only 1 time for economy domestic flights. I can never find a good redemption.”
Likes the Sapphire Preferred as an all-round card, combining it with a Freedom and an Ink and transferring points to United for economy flights.
“As someone who's not heavily into churning, I like it as an all around card. URs are valuable, high earning potential combined with a Freedom and Ink.”
Uses only the Sapphire Preferred, finds the points worth it, and says customer service is easy to reach: someone picks up when they call.
“CSP is the only card I use. The 1:1 points is worth it.”
Pairs the Sapphire Preferred with a Freedom Flex and Ink Cash, moving all points to the Sapphire to transfer to partners and using it for streaming, travel and dining.
“I have CSP, CIC, and CFF, only the CSP has an AF and ability to transfer points to partners, and I transfer all points from CFF/CIC to CSP.”

“I just really really wish they changed it to all groceries instead of online. I really want to use my CSP at”
Finds good point redemptions on United economy flights by being flexible about travel dates, and says the card works well for them alongside a United card.
“Personally I’ve found good redemptions on United economy flights. The key is flexibility.”
Put a hospital bill on the Sapphire Preferred during a trip, and within hours Chase customer service called offering to book them a nearby hotel.
“During the trip, we had to take my daughter to the hospital. My CSP is the #1 stallion in my stable so naturally i put the ER deductible on my card.”
After totalling a rental car paid with the Sapphire Preferred and having no car insurance, they found the claim process pleasant and the card's coverage worked with Enterprise to pay for the damage.
“I call up CSP expecting layers of red tape but instead they were extremely pleasant the whole time and walked me through the paperwork to fill out.”
